Pinto Art Gallery holds simultaneous shows for the Sixth Antipolo Arts Festival
A furniture showcase, outdoor film screening, painting exhibitions, terra cotta sculpture installations and a contemporary stoneware show are among the events of the two month long
Antipolo Arts Festival which opens on
May 13, Sunday at the
Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo.
Featured at the
Gallery 1 are the recent landscape paintings of
Jeannie Tan. The artist Tan - also a naturalist and outdoorsman - paints the mountainside and the sea in the quietude of contemplative serenity. Her works present nature as a calm organism, where the elements coalesce with life forms in harmony and rhythm.
On view at the
Gallery Shop are the stoneware sculptures of
Hadrian Mendoza. A US-trained potter, Mendoza presents organic form-inspired vessels and sculptural works in anagama and glazed pottery. The artist is noted for his unique treatment of form and for his iconic references to ancient pottery works such as the Manunggul jars. Mendoza is an active artistic collaborator of John Pettyjohn and both teach pottery workshops in Pansol Laguna.
Installed in various locations at the
House and Foyer are the contemporary furniture works of young designer
Rocky Camus. Done mostly with aged and rare wood, Camus' designs are sleek and modern, with references to oriental traditions.
On the Grounds are installation works of Dumaguete-based sculptors
Mark Valenzuela and
Hemrod Duran. Valenzuela and Duran collaborated to create a site-specific environment piece called "Towers" of Negros terra cotta. "Towers" show pairs of forms, both human and serpentine rising from the earth.
Finally open-air film screenings of selected works by students of director Marilou Diaz-Abaya will be held on the afternoon of the opening day. An outdoor screen and informal viewing arrangements will take place in the Gallery Gardens and Grounds.
The Antipolo Arts Festival is an annual contemporary art event that takes place during the Antipolo pilgrimage season in the whole month of May.
The festival exhibitions and events open on May 13 2007 and will run until June 30, 2007.
